12- “Ensino superior, ciência e tecnologia: bases para a utopia da construção de uma sociedade mais justa” (2002)– Text of a speech presented during a symposium on “Ciência e Tecnologia: um instrumento para a paz”, held in Porto Alegre, Brasil (3 February 2002), intheframeworkoftheWorldSocialForum(Fórum SocialMundial).The document made reference to the WTO action in the field of higher education. This made the organizers of the IIIrd Conference of State Universities in Ibero- America organized the same year in Porto Alegre to focus their discussions on the subject of globalization and the refusal to accept the promotion of education as a commodity. This text was published in the Journal “Estudo & Debate”, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, Editora Univates- volume 10 – number 1 – 2003.
13- “Educação superior: bem público ou serviço comercial regulamentado pela OMC?” (2002)– This text was presented to the IIIa. Reunião de Reitores de Universidades Públicas Ibero-americanas– the III Cumbre – and was used to formulate the Porto Alegre Charter (Carta de Porto Alegre), where the rectors manifested their rejection to the policies implemented in the framework of the WTO favouring the international commercialization of educational services. The text was published (pgs 31 to 109) in 2002 by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in the book “Universidade, um lugar fora do poder”, organized by Wrana Panizzi and with the participation also of Rodrigo Borja (Ecuador) and Juan Carlos Gottifried (Argentina).
14- “Valores e identidades numa sociedade sem fronteiras” (2004) – document presented partially in Portuguese and partially in Spanish to the II Congresso Euro- Latinoamericano de Universidades, organized by the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in collaboration with the Coimbra Group. In 2006, the Federal University of Minas Gerais published a book organized by Ana Lúcia Almeida Gazzola and Sandra Goulart, “Cooperação Internacional e Diversidade”. This text was included as a chapter of this book. Previously, the same themes were explored by the author in a document presented in Madrid, Spain, in a symposium organized on 4th May 2004, in the Technical University of Madrid (Seminário 2004 – Universidad – Inmigración: un paso hacia la sociedad multicultural “).
15- “Some aspects of the impact of globalization in higher education in developing countries”(2002)– This document was presented in September 2002 in the opening session of the conference organized in Hangzhou,China,to inaugurate the GUNI network (GUNI-AP) for Asia and the Pacific. Later, the document was also presented in December 2002, in Paris, during an international conference organized by Prometeus Program of the European Union.
16- A) “La OMC y la educación superior para el mercado” (2002)– This document was used during a speech in an international meeting organized by CEXECI in Cáceres, Spain, in July 2002. This is an up-to-date version of the text presented in Porto Alegre (document no. 14). The original was elaborated in Spanish. A Portuguese version of the text elaborated at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was published by CEXECI and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2003, as a chapter of the book “A educación superior frente a Davos – La educación superior frente a Davos”.
16. B) – Portuguese version “A OMC e a educação superior para o mercado” (2002).The translation was elaborated by the Fderal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2003, as a chapter of the book “A educação superior frente a Davos–La educación superior frente a Davos”.
17- “Impacto da ação da OMC no ensino superior e no mercado det rabalho” (2002)– This document was elaborated on the basis of a speech made in Goiânia, Brasil,on “Organização profissional e as novas exigências do mundo do trabalho” prepared under the request of the organizers of the “59ª. Semana Oficial da Engenharia, da Arquitetura e da Agronomia- CONFEA-CREA”, held in Goiânia, Brazil, on 27th November 2002 and in a series of documents elaborated by the author in 2002 and 2003 on the WTO and its impact on education. The text was published in 2004 as a hapter of the book“ Globalização–Dimensões e Alternativas– Hegemonia e contra-hegemonia”– organized by Theotônio dos Santos (Editora PUC Rio, Edições Loyola and the network Reggen).
18- “Universidades em tempo de globalização: internacionalização para o bem e para o mal” (2005)– Second International Symposium on Science and Technology in Latin América “A Universidade como promotora do desenvolvimento sustentável”– Universidade de Campinas, Campinas, São Paulo, 9 and 10 November 2005. The University of Campinas published a booklet with the summary of the presentations. Exceptionally, this text was published in its integral version.
19- “Comunicação, cultura e educação: a difícil busca da democratização em tempos de globalização” (2005)– This document was presented to the participants of the International Symposim Reggen 2005, held in Rio de Janeiro: “Alternativas à globalização: potências emergentes e os novos caminhos da modernidade” – Rio de Janeiro, 8 to 13 October 2005.
